On the Application of Negative Harmony to Melody for Symbolic Music Processing

The following audio samples are provided as supplementary material for the article On the Application of Negative Harmony to Melody for Symbolic Music Processing, authored by R. Giampiccolo, A. Bernardini, and A. Sarti, and accepted for pubblication in Computer Music Journal.

In the following, we present examples of the proposed policies for negative melody transformation as applied to:

• Für Elise (WoO 59) by L. V. Beethoven.
• Rondò "Alla Turca" (K 331) from Sonata n° 11 by W. A. Mozart.
• Hedwig's Theme from the soundtrack of the movie "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" by J. Williams.

The proposed policies are referreto as: Levy (LE), Same Octave (SO), Fixed Axis (FA, where O refers to the chosen Octave), Closed Axis (CA), and Closed Negative (CN).
